Sun, sea and pyjamas
Now that we have the perfect summer pyjamas for ladies who staycation, we just need the destination to match.
It may not be the 30° sandy beaches we spent lock-down dreaming of, however a staycation in the UK is this summer’s best opportunity to step away from the laptop and hit that wholly underused and coveted ‘do not disturb’ button on your phone (go on I dare you).
We’re coming around to the idea that holidays don’t have to include airport queues, mosquito bites and burnt bums (Barcelona 2018 - long story, a lot of standing). In fact, stepping away from work to spend time with loved ones who’ve become passing ships needn't be far from home.
Inspired by Yawn’s hand drawn prints, we’re sharing a few of our favourite UK holiday destinations.
Yawn's staycation suggestions
Windermere, The Lake District
You may not be guaranteed Mediterranean temperatures, however where better to wild swim in the UK than in the largest natural lake in England?
Pairing suggestion: Bums and Roses
Anglesey, Wales
Have you got birdwatching on the agenda this staycation? This Welsh island is a treasure trove for rare birds, coastal walks and picturesque sandy beaches.
Pairing suggestion: Lovebirds
Blackpool
You know how they call Blackpool the Paris of the UK… Okay me neither, but they should! With it’s very own Eiffel-esc tower and seaside charm, is it possible this is an underrated staycation gem?
Pairing suggestion: Float Away
Padstow, Cornwall
In our expert opinion, there are a few things in life you can never have too much of; swims in the ocean, seaside sunsets and fish and chips (although probably best not to test this one) – all available in abundance near this beautiful Cornish town.
Pairing suggestion: Port in a Storm
The New Forest
Looking to get lost in the woods? We firmly believe that surrounding yourself with more trees from time to time can only be a good thing. Plus, the New Forest literally has wild ponies… WILD PONIES. It’s the fever dream of our 8-year-old selves.
Pairing suggestion: Pink Hideaway
Yawn's verdict
We’ve been won over by the range of places to visit in the UK (no matter how drizzly) and feel the staycation isn’t a consolation prize, but an opportunity to recognise what we might have taken for granted until now. It turns out… there’s kind of a lot to do here.
‘Suddenly, in the space of a moment, I realized what it was that I loved about Britain - which is to say, all of it.’
